| Women (Un)covered!!! There are certain issues that really pinch me to such an extent that it becomes inevitable for me to contain it to me. Once I was traveling through a leading shopping mall in Gulberg-2 Lahore named as Men’s store and there I saw an advertisement in which a lady was scantily dressed and definitely that particular women qualified every definition that could lend her as “alluring”, and notion flashed in my mind that why such marketing strategies are exercised, and nobody bothers to object, though I accept that it is democratic right of every human to express in a way one likes, but still I think that perhaps this is not the right way. One can easily get flabbergasted why NGO’s are not taking up this crucial issue that has direct relation with the dignity of women. It is there strange behavior that on the issue on infamous “Mukhtaran Mai” there was such a great degree of hue and cry and on this issue no one dares take up this matter, perhaps we have certain paradigms that would interpret such acts as something modern, but I don’t think that this is modernism, this is unabated imposition of western values in an effort to have a universal civilization, here at this point I would like to quote my favorite author Samuel P.Huttington the author of much publicized “Clash of Civilizations and Emergence of New World Order”, who opined that any effort to westernize non-western societies would result in powerful backlash that can be easily seen in the form of religious political parties taking the stage of political power as seen in Iran, Pakistan and few months back in Turkey. I was thoroughly shocked when I came to know in order to promote soft image of Pakistan, a women in bikini paraded in front of Pakistan’s democratically elected dictator Gen.Musharraf, in his previous visit to US. Judging women on the basis of her skin is against the stature of women which is given by the nature to her, this is nothing but the exploitation of women by male chauvinistic society. It was an occasion of mere coincidence that when one of the provincial assembly of Pakistan take up this issue, one of the NGO in US also take up this issue in Congress against widely broadcasted Miss World competition, citing it as against the dignity of women. Even Sameena Peerzada, famous Pakistani actress and director of movie “Inteha”, in her interview clearly expressed her outrage and said that she would not like to be judged by men on the basis of her skin. According to one survey, published in the leading local newspaper, female celebrities show alomst 66% of their flesh in the mega events. Though there is definitely certain degree of acceptance of this very phenomenon in some quarters of our society who in my opinions are not feminists but pseudo feminists. | Was Diana Murdered? I am inspired by few ladies and I don’t feel shy to admit this reality, Lady Diana was one of those short listed women in that category, her death has already stirred up speculation that if she really died of an accident or it was a well planned assassination. I am trying to track all that has been written about her death, my investigation has not closed yet, and whatever I would receive I will be surely pu tting on the web. There is enough evidence to support this very idea that she was pregnant by her boy friend Dodi al-Fayed, her relationship started by November 1996, and intimacy begins shortly after they meet, acc ording to CIA reports. According to reliable sources French reports suggested that Diana was pregnanted by Dodi as per charged by Dodi’s father but British intelligence denied that. Royal family could not tolerate that a British queen would give birth to a Muslim baby, according to one confirmed source, Palace was quoted as "Such an affair is racially and morally repugnant and no son of a Bedouin camel trader is fit for the mother of a future king," .Troubled by this very development British higher authorities contacted CIA to engineer the whole scenario that would solve this problem. The so-called Paris accident that led to the death of Princess of Wales on 31 August 1997 is a whole drama of carefully designed events. According to movie white Fiat Uno car passed through her car and before that a motorcyclist also passed through the Mercedes of Diana accompanied by her boyfriend, and driven by his bodyguard Paul Henry, which according to credible authorities was on the payroll of MI6, and he got €70,000 in his bank balance shortly before his death. But what that white Fiat was doing on that occasion, French police says that have tried to dig it but all in vain, which is in fact wrong, they did find that and it was owned by John Andanson who was killed in mysteri ous circumstances and then his office looted with no one charged till yet. In fact this very Fiat Uno collided with that Mercedes, the DNA of paint on Mercedes is similar to that of Fiat and also skid marks providing the much wanted evidence, supporting the very idea that Mercedes collided with Fiat, and what about that very motorcyclist, if the whole very situation is kept in mind, the possibility may arise that he was actually trying to put light on the eyes of the driver to let him puzzle. As per according to official sources the driver Henry Paul was drunk, and his blood test showed that, but there is the striking revelation his blood contained 21% of carbon mono oxide, is it really possi ble, in this condition one can nit even walk, but the movies made of Henry Paul before leaving the hotel Ritz does not suggest that, he is pretty much normal, there are no signs of heavily drunkenness. His blood test reports are contestable and the commentators from US and other European members had explained their due reservations. Another noteworthy factor is that movie contains the picture of two unidentified men in the hall, who were they? It has been reported, five to six men belonging to MI6 entered the morgue, what were they doing, perhaps causing tempering to the tests or swapping the blood. CIA documents provide another startling evidence “Al Fayed Mercedes Limo stolen and returned with electronics missing. Reliable intelligent source confirms K-team (Mossad and British agents) was involved”. Source reports, car was rebuilt to respond to external radio controls. This fact must not be taken as lightly that after the killing of her bodyguard Barry Mannakee (who is rumored to have become her lover in 1985), she expressed her concern that she too would be assassinated. There may be other related issues which have not been covered yet in this issue. Anyhow, she was indeed an admirable lady. But let me add another very important aspect to her life that despite the fact that she had the largest collection of clothes and glamour associated to her status, she was considered to be one of the most unhappiest women of her time due to failed marriage life, and this reveals the fact hat one can not survive in this world without relations to whom one owns..... | | |
| Lahore the Next Metropolis
I am a proud Lahori and obviously have a concern what is happening in this city. City has transitioned from its traditional outlook to a more western; I would attribute this very change because of a dramatic paradigm shift in the mindset of Lahore’s middle class. Recently organized Lahore Marathon has been in the limelight for past many days,
Some advocating the mix marathon (both genders) it as against our values, and some proponents asserting it as a healthy activity, this caused the definite friction between govt. and the opposition, and this even invited some clashes between security forces and opposition supporters. I was shocked the way the opposition supporters behaved, they damaged public property which is simply mind boggling, there may be the difference of opinions but nobody has the right to violate laws, perhaps Pakistani religious right needs to be taught ethics, even hundreds of French marched against ban on scarves but nobody behaved in this manner.
Lahore commonly known as the PARIS OF THE EAST, THE PEARL OF PUNJAB, declared as the city PARALLEL TO CORDOBA in 60’s, its burgeoning growth has been the issue for past many years. Lahore is popular among masses because of host of reasons, Lahore is known as the country’s Silicon Valley being the centre of IT industry is playing an important role in the country’s economy and the recently started construction of IT Tower on Main Boulevard adjacent to Hafeez Centre is important development in the city, construction of highly sophisticated Tricon Centre that would accommodate corporate offices would make it heaven for financial activities, the much awaited construction of Expo Centre has also commenced, that would make Lahore prominent on international trade map. Lahore’s underpasses on Canal Road along with flowing lake and trees which belong to pre partition era, making the experience of traveling in Lahore wonderful, manmade stuff augmenting the natural beauty, such a beautiful blend is truly rare. MM ALAM Road boasting city’s most expensive restaurants including international food chain brands, Food Street on Gowal Mandi making local food culture even richer. Celebration of Basant festival with ever high degree of ent usiasm has now become the common tag of the city, with colorful kites making its way on Lahore’s sky, the recent opening of night club in Defence Society has been received with enthusiasm especially among youth, on the other it has come under fierce condemnation calling it as a cultural invasion of the west. World Arts Festival organized at Alhamra Arts Academy located nearby Gaddhafi Cricket stadium, has put the city on the forefront of entertainment activities, with Light Rail transit project still in its embryonic stages promises easy traveling for locals, and renovation of pre-partition walled city undertaken by Italian company is also very essential for the preservation of our heritage, the inauguration of IMAX theatre by Canadian company that would house four cinema houses that would show case educational and entertainment movies especially for children, those who belong to the lower strata of the society, who are deprived of not from quality education but are also entertainment starved. The construction of China Centre in the city after being in Dubai, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, with increasing Chinese presence in the city adds to its metropolitan character. Display of McLaren F1 on Main Boulevard provided a thrilling experience to locals to watch their fellow countrymen in action. This time winter gave a chilling experience to Lahoris with temperature dropping below subzero temperatures to -6 Celsius, lowest in 71 years forcing locals to remain inside their homes. Lahore also has some of the finest educational institutions in the country such as LUMS (Lahore university Of Management Sciences) ranked as world’s eight university (according to LUMS marketing dept.) and National College of Arts, one of the best educational centre producing quality graduates in Arts and Architecture, here are several others high quality engineering and medical institutions. Lahore also has fine hotels and the mushroom growth of shopping malls is incredible, at which Lahore’s increasing brand conscious middle class takes a ride. Industrial estates in the outskirts of the city picking up the pace of industrialization, and real estate values of city on the rocketing heights, augments its economic importance. Lahore is attracting almost 30% of the investment happening in the country, and the trend to divert investment from Karachi to Lahore as the result of deteriorating law and order in Karachi in the last decade is just picking up.
Lahore is included among the 100 MOST BEAUTIFUL CITIES OF THE WORLD, but this is not enough, it is a long way to go, it is just the tip of the iceberg, time would come when Lahore would be the Pride of Asia, the symbol of Pakistan’s economic powerhouse. | | |
| Pakistan’s Fractured Foreign Policy
Pakistani leadership headed by Gen.Musharraf seems to be inadequately equipped when it comes to dealing with international issues, and this is evident the way the issues of profound importance are being handled. Pakistan despite the fact being an ally in a Washington led war on terror is unable to concede substantial benefits from American govt, though it is note worthy that Pakistan has been declared major non-NATO ally. Indian acquisition of advanced fighter aircrafts from US and Phalcon AWACs from Israel is a major diplomatic feat at which their Pakistani counterparts seems to be at immature. Access to American markets is still not all that deep and talks are still going on between concerned departments of both countries to accomplish this target, recent accord between India and US is an alarming development in Pakistan’s neighbourhood that has shaken the Musharraf regime to the core. India has been allowed access to American nuclear technology, this agreement must have sent shocking waves throughout Pakistani establishment and subsequently forced Pakistani military top brass to seek access to American nuclear hardware or perhaps the need to strike similar kind of agreeme nt with their long trusted natural ally China, and according to unconfirmed reports Pakistan has initiated the dialogue with Chinese leadership but it has not concluded yet. Pakistan allowing US forces to operate at Jacobabad Air field has come under scathing attack, because it has been reported that from this facility US is keeping an eye on Chinese military movement that has put Pak-China relations in a strain. In another mess created by Pakistani foreign ministry is that on one side Pakistan is a major non-NATO ally of US and on the other Pakistan has undergone a strategic agreement with China that states neither side would join any alliance that has the potential to compromise security concern of either side. What would be the course of Pakistan in case of Sino-US rift is the scene that has yet to be unfolded. Recent intrusion in the Pakistani airspace by American forces located in Afghanistan has not come as a major surprise because of too much pro American stance adopted at highest levels in the establishment, I was literally in a state of shock that not only Musharraf but also whole of the Senate seems to be have more concern of their seats than territorial integrity of the country, the unanimous resolution adopted by Senate that has spared US is by any stretch of imagination is a regrettable step, I still remember that when American military jeep in South Korea crushed two local girls, such a great degree of protests were organized that it forced the govt. to step down, but in Pakistan the case is opposite. The behaivour metted out with the Pakistani foreign secretary is indeed a matter of shame for the nation, he was in the Prime Minister’s entourage to US and was asked by airport authorities to hands up during checking on their arrival in the New York, but still the silent exercise by the govt. is surprising. At this, I would like to label Pakistani leadership as gullible fools, who does not know anything but YES SIR to American Congress.
